Ontario is Opening Back Up
Ontario is finally easing up restrictions, as announced in a press conference earlier today by Premier Doug Ford, accompanied by the Health Minister of Ontario and Chief Medical Officer of Health. In a statement, Doug Ford said, "We can be confident that the worst is behind us as we look to cautiously ease public health measures." There is a three-step plan to start to re-open Ontario, here’s what you need to know:
Ontario plans to re-open Indoor dining, gyms, retailers, shopping malls, and cinemas at 50% capacity. Museums, aquariums, zoos, casinos, bingo halls, galleries, and any other type of gaming establishment can re-open at 100% capacity. The Ontario government also plans to reopen sporting events at 50% seated capacity or 500 people maximum allowed in the stadium. Social gathering limits will increase up to 10 people indoors and 25 outdoors. All these measures will be invoked starting January 31st, 2022. But this is only the first step, here’s what you need to know going forward:
Each step of the reopening plan will take place by 21 days for the province to monitor the COVID-19 situation, case counts and general safety and health of the public when it comes to reopening Ontario. The government will not hesitate to delay steps if it is in favor of the public’s health. The next step will be invoked on February 21st, and the final one on March 14th, slowly increasing capacity limits.
