O'Toole Ousted as CPC Leader

Facing a virtual caucus meeting this morning, Conservative Leader Erin O’Toole has been removed from his position.

Since losing the federal election in September 2021 and losing 2 seats, tensions have been high within the Conservative Party over O’Toole’s standing as leader.

There have been many issues that the party has been divided over since returning to Parliament in November, and disagreements over O’Toole’s leadership has been one looming over the party.

This decision comes just days after leaks surfaced that over 30 caucus members signed a letter calling for an early leadership review. It is unknown who all the members that signed this were, but members Bob Benzen and Garnett Genuis have said they did.

A leadership review was supposed to take place at the next party convention in August 2023, but the members had the power to move it up.

The choosing of an interim leader will be the next step in the process of finding a new permanent leader. A leadership race is expected to be called soon.
